If your dishwasher isn't cleaning properly, you are wasting water and energy trying to wash your dishes in an appliance that is only causing your dishes to appear dirtier. If your dishwasher isn't cleaning properly, the dishes may be left with food on them, or they may be caked with soap that wasn't removed, or just have spots all over them, leaving you to have to clean them by hand. In this case, you are also wasting time and energy yourself. If your appliance isn't working properly, there are things you may be able to do to get them working again. Read on for some things you can do to repair your appliance.

Check The Soap Dispenser

The door on the soap dispenser may not be opening properly and not allowing the soap to escape like it should. Check the door latch to be sure it easily opens and closes as it should. The door to the dispenser is usually opened when water begins to hit it from the arms in the bottom spinning around in a circular motion. If the latch sticks, you may want to consider investing in a new dispenser, which can usually be found online or through a parts supply store. Be sure you are also only using dishwasher detergent and not any other type of soap.

Inspect The Sprayer Arms

If the sprayer arms are clogged, they will not be able to spray thoroughly, and cannot open the dispenser door. This can also cause an issue with cleaning your dishes properly, as the spray may not be strong enough to remove food buildup or even the soap hitting the dishes. Remove the sprayer arms and remove anything that may be clogging the waterspouts on the arms. If you have to, soak the sprayer arms to remove calcium buildup.

Check The Filter Beneath

If the filter beneath is clogged, water may be accumulating in your machine and not draining properly. When this happens, the dishes may not be getting as clean as they should be because they may be sitting in dirty water. You need to clean the filter and ensure that you do not have a clog in your drain line. Clean the drains out using a drain cleaning solution, or using a snake in the drain, and be sure to scrape your dishes thoroughly to prevent a clog.

If you have issues with your dishwasher not performing as it should, you can use the information above to help you, and you can also call an appliance repair professional to make any necessary repairs for you.
